EMBER is a retired breeding ambassador with paws4people. She also serves as the foundation’s first placed Crisis Response Dog (CRD). EMBER’s primary handler is Nathan McConnell, an Assistant Chief with the Boiling Spring Lakes Fire Rescue Department in Southport, N.C. Nathan is also a Paramedic with Brunswick County EMS and has over 30 years of experience in emergency response.
As a CRD, EMBER responds with the Fire Department to emergency scenes, and provides a positive memory from a traumatic experience to those who suffer loss from fires or natural disasters. EMBER provides emotional support for the responders who deal with loss and trauma on a daily basis. EMBER also helps spread awareness of both p4p and fire safety during her daily interactions with the public.
EMBER is just one example of the many functions that Assistance Dogs can provide to our clients and the public and just how valuable our service dogs truly are.
