Faith is a happy and energetic young lady who has been diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder, ADHD and Disinhibited Social Engagement Disorder. Faith joined her family through adoption as an infant, but spent the first few months of her life in the NICU at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. She struggles most with impulsivity which interferes with her daily life at home, in school and in social situations. She also has a hard time self-regulating her body and her behaviors and she experiences frequent angry outbursts. She often struggles with age-appropriate social and safety decision making, as well.
In December 2018, Faith and SANDERS met and became fast friends and an amazing new team! SANDERS is a sweet and loving golden who helps Faith and her family by alerting to changes in her energy levels and moods. He also interrupts her negative behaviors and provides Deep Pressure Therapy, comforting Faith when she has a hard day and helping her to calm her body especially at night so she can get proper rest and sleep consistently.
Faith’s behaviors used to make it challenging for her family to go out and safely enjoy activities together. Now with SANDERS by her side, Faith is able to engage in appropriate interactions when in public places and stay close instead of wandering off. SANDERS presence has also drastically changed the energy in the family home environment on a daily basis because of his ability to distract and calm Faith before an emotional outburst gets out of hand. Their bond grows stronger every day and they continue to make such great progress together!
