John joined the US Navy on his 17th birthday, and served for 23 years. His service took him to many different areas of conflict under varying types of circumstances. When he retired, he was diagnosed with nerve issues in his legs and back, as well as PTSD. John originally found paws4people, thanks to his family, who had hoped to get some help for their dad! He was feeling alone, out of place, and angry at people who did not understand what he was coping with.
With the help of SHELBY, John has been able to improve his quality of life. He can go out in public more often and feel comfortable around people once again. SHELBY has given him that added impetus to get out and get going on a new life for himself, his family and his friends. John has a positive outlook on life, and continues to work toward great progress with his new Service Dog.
