Philip served 8 years in the Marine Corps and 8 years in law enforcement. During his years of service, he had many difficult experiences, including being deployed to Iraq. As a result of his experiences and service, he was diagnosed with PTSD. Philip does not like to leave his bedroom or the house. He requires the company of his wife or children when he needs to leave or go somewhere. He is hypervigilant, suffering from memory issues, severe panic attacks, severe anxiety, insomnia, tremors, flashbacks, nightmares and night terrors. PTSD has taken over every aspect of his life, creating unnecessary fear, and limiting him on what he can do and where he can go. Philip’s hope is to regain his independence and confidence with an Assistance Dog.
Philip and GREER met in March 2020 and took to each other right away! GREER is a handsome Goldador who will help Philip by alerting to rising anxiety levels, paying attention in crowded places to help minimize his hypervigilance, and anchoring to his anxiety. This will give Philip the confidence he was lacking to get out of his bedroom and ultimately out of the house, knowing that GREER has his back. GREER will alert him and wake him from nightmares, allowing him more restful sleep. Together, this team will do great things!
