Samantha Leiter

Samantha is a vibrant 10 year old girl, who at birth, suffered a stroke. The doctors said 80% of the kids who experience this type of brain injury die immediately and though she survived, her ability to walk, talk, breathe and eat would be severely impacted. The brain injury also caused significant seizures and mostly at night. I needed as much support at night time to alert me to a possibility of Sammie having a seizure AND to help me when one occurs. This is where we met paws4people. They trained CORINA to be a service dog, therapy dog, assistance dog and seizure alert dog. CORINA will lick Sammie's face when she is about to have a seizure. She will also go and get Sammie's medicine bag or my husband when I ask her too. Witnessing a seizure is something I wish upon no family to endure. With CORINA, I always have support in the situation. CORINA is also Sammie's best friend. We have been with paws4people for over 4 years as clients. It is wonderful being part of this program and watching it grow benefiting so many families. I anticipate they will be part of our lives forever, because they understand our challenges and they provide us endless support. Sammie is a more confident, talking, RUNNING, laughing, eating, sleeping young girl and paws4people has been a huge part of her success.
