HM2 Rob Sunday, USN (ret.)

Rob is diagnosed with PTSD after serving 10 years in the US Navy as a Corpsman (medic), attached to Marine Corps Infantry Units. He deployed twice to Afghanistan, for a total of 14 months, where he was exposed to multiple IED blasts and daily fire fights. On these deployments, Rob was one of the first responders to the scene, helping care for injured service members, often while still under fire, and sometimes being injured himself. Because of his combat experience, he suffers from irritability, insomnia, panic attacks, and has trouble in crowded places. He is always on alert, and feels like his behavior has made him a burden on his family. Rob’s hope is that by having an Assistance Dog, he will be able to reduce some of his anxiety, leading to better relationships with his wife and young children.

Rob met HOOVER, a fun-loving Labrador Retriever, in December 2018! HOOVER will help Rob by interrupting his negative behaviors, anchoring to his anxiety, and paying attention while in crowded places. He will give Rob the confidence he was lacking to live a happy and fulfilling life with his young family, once again!
