Harry Martens III
Harry was born and raised in Washington DC as a fourth generation native Washingtonian. He graduated from Brown University and went directly into the Navy.
After his military service, he went into the family business of automobile retailing – a business started by his grandfather in 1910. He was president and CEO of the family’s Volvo and Volkswagen dealerships, and along the way, he started and was president of his own real estate development and construction business. In 2014, he ‘semi-retired’ and moved to Southport, NC full time.
Harry was one of the founders of the Make-A-Wish Foundation in the Washington area, and along with his wife Marilyn, continues to volunteer as a Wish Grantor for the organization. He coached children’s soccer teams in the DC area for over 20 years, and has always been involved in working with children, going back to his high school years when he worked with Special Olympics children in the very first years of that organization.
Harry has chaired the Board of Directors of both his companies, and been on the Board of Trustees and Executive Committees of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic Area and Montgomery Soccer Inc. In addition, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Washington Area New Automobile Dealers Association.
When he and Marilyn arrived In Southport, they began developing connections into their new community, and found their love and passion in paws4people. Having grown up with dogs all his life, and having had three extraordinary Golden Retrievers over the last thirty years, it was just a natural fit with his love of children and having served in the military. Harry brings his love of dogs and his passion for serving people to paws4people. He is the proud "dad" of his Breeder Ambassador Dog DARIEN.
