In Training Team Since: 2019

Elijah L.

Elijah is a 5 year old boy who was diagnosed with severe autism in May 2016. He is non-verbal and does not use sign language, but instead communicates through gestures. He wears a tracking bracelet on his ankle, because of his tendencies to wander off. Elijah also deals with sleep issues, chronic constipation which causes anxiety, and does not often comprehend what people are saying to him. Elijah’s parents say that he is a very happy and affectionate boy, but they see him struggle with so much every day. Their hope is that an Assistance Dog will help build some confidence in Elijah and motivate him to learn new skills.

Elijah and DECLAN met and became best friends in April 2019! She will help Elijah by interrupting his negative behaviors, and alerting mom to his anxiety. DECLAN will also help by providing comfort through Deep Pressure Therapy when Elijah is sad, confused, or having a tough day. Elijah’s parents are hopeful that with DECLAN by his side, it will bridge the gap between Elijah and his peers, and lead to better relationships with other kids!
