Donald Smith, USMC Veteran

Donald served in the US Marine Corps as a Motor Vehicle Operator. He is diagnosed with Major Depression, after living with the affects of his upbringing. Donald often feels like his life doesn’t have meaning. He has a hard time with social interactions, has trouble sleeping, and is hypervigilant. He feels detached from people and relationships, and no longer has interest in activities that used to be important to him. Donald hopes that an Assistance Dog will help him feel more comfortable in public settings.

ACADIA took an instant liking to Donald in December of 2018 – and their story together began! ACADIA will help mitigate Donald’s social unease by alerting to people coming up behind him, paying attention in crowded stores and locations, and anchoring to his anxiety. ACADIA will also wake Donald from nightmares, allowing him to rest better at night. With ACADIA by his side, we know there is nothing Donald can’t do when he puts his mind to it!
