CW3 Nathaniel Palmer, US Army (ret.)

Nate is retired from the Army and works as a Department of Defense Contractor. He spent most of his 20 years overseas in Germany, Korea, Bosnia, Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar, and Afghanistan. He was shot at both directly and indirectly and saw casualties with injuries beyond description. He also lost friends. These events and memories did not affect him (or so he thought) until the past 18 months. He now has vivid night terrors, hypervigilance in crowds and startles very easily.

Nate is diagnosed with PTS. He withdraws and isolates from his family and friends. He relives numerous combat events and the friends he lost in combat. He fears that his children are learning his behaviors and will not have a normal life because of him.

In March of 2017, Nate met CARMEN, his new battle buddy! She is a spunky yellow lab and is eager to help Nate through life! She will help Nate by anchoring when he is anxious, interrupting negative behaviors and alerting to people approaching him from behind. CARMEN will also help Nate with his interpersonal relationships with his family.
