SSgt Sharp deployed with CLB-2 to Al-Asad Iraq in 2008. During this deployment SSgt Sharp was exposed to a Blast. He was diagnosed with Traumatic Brain Injury and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Not quite two years after being exposed to a blast, SSgt Sharp was involved in a Motocross mishap. He fractured his tibia x2, fibula, ankle and both great toes. He also sustained a torn MCL and a blood clot in his knee. NALA was abandoned on the side of the road as a puppy and placed into a no-kill shelter. Brent saw the picture of NALA online immediately headed to the shelter in Hickory NC. NALA is now 20 months old and she is Brent’s very best friend. They are together night and day. Currently NALA has been trained to wake Brent up during nightmares. They are working on new commands every day and NALA will soon become fully trained to help Brent mitigate both his physical and psychiatric symptoms.
