Rehabilitative Assistance Dogs – Psychiatric [RAD-PSY] – [Level 2]
A pKTI Rehabilitative Assistance Dog / Psychiatric [RAD-PSY] is an Assistance Dog specially trained to work with and is placed with an individual (most often a Veteran or an Active-Duty Military member) who has experienced a physical or psychological trauma which has resulted in a diagnosis of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Complex-Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD), and/or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
pKTI Rehabilitative Assistance Dog / Psychiatric [RAD-PSY] receives within a pKTI K-9 Training Program/Venue:
a MINIMUM of 160 hours of training against the KTI Rehabilitative Assistance Dog Command Set Matrix, over a period of at least 4 months,
a MINIMUM of 80 hours of General Obedience Training, over a period of at least 4 months,
a MINIMUM of 40 hours of “socialization” Training, over a period of at least 4 months.
At the completion of these training requirements all pKTI Rehabilitative Assistance Dog [RAD-PSY] must pass the pKTI Service Dog Certification Test and the Private Placement Client / Private Placement Handler Rehabilitative Assistance Dog Transition Training Course. Once the pKTI Rehabilitative Assistance Service Dog [RAD-PNY] has successfully completed these Tests / Courses, it is then designated as a “Certified” Rehabilitative Assistance Dog [RAD-PSY]. [Note: A pKTI Rehabilitative Assistance Dog / Psychiatric [RAD-PSY] generally DOES NOT have full “Public Access” as defined by the ADA. A pKTI Rehabilitative Assistance Dog / Psychiatric [RAD-PSY] may have limited “Fair-housing Public Access Rights” as defined by the ADA.]
pKTI Rehabilitative Assistance Dogs [RAD-PSY] are acquired from:
the paws4peopleTM Assistance Dog Breeding Program. A custom blood-line breeding program specifically developed to produce dogs with the personality, temperament, and disposition suitable for Assistance Dog work, a specially chosen breeder (either via donation or purchase) whose blood-lines and pedigrees have been carefully researched to produce dogs with the required personality, temperament, disposition, and confirmation suitable for Assistance Dog work, or, the pKTI Shelter/Rescue Program.
Upon successful completion of this testing and evaluation process the pKTI Rehabilitative Assistance Dog [RAD-PSY] shall be eligible to wear the corresponding logo of the respective training program / facility where the dog completed its training.
